Anna Leigh Ashford
Annaleigh Amanda Ashford (born April 14th 1988) was an American performer, actor and dancer. In her early Broadway role, she was her role in Wicked Legally Blonde Hair. Her first Tony Award was given to Ashford for her role as Essie Carmichael, in You Can't Take It With You. Tony Award-winning actor Annaleigh Ashford is a veteran of the majority of her time working with some of the most acclaimed directors and actors across the stage, film and TV and she continues that award-winning project with various upcoming ones. Ashford is scheduled to be starring alongside Kumail Nanjiani, as Robert Siegel's Hulu exclusive Welcome to Chippendales. It debuts on the 22nd November. Ashford currently works on Searchlight Pictures' horror thriller Dust with Sarah Paulson, Ebon Moss Bachrach and Ebon Mosch-Bachrach. This film is a Hulu Original and will be streamed on Disney DTC. Ashford will return in 2023 and will star alongside Josh Groban at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in the revival of Stephensondheim's Sweeney Todd. The same team that created Hamilton director Jeffrey Seller and director Thomas Kail will be at the helm of the show. Ashford portrayed Paula Jones, the main character in Ryan Murphy's new FX series American Crime Story Impeachment. The show is based on the impeachment crisis that swept Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky Linda Tripp and other principal characters in the first impeachment proceedings in America for more than 100 years. Ashford appeared for two seasons in CBS popular comedy B Positive. The show was created by Chuck Lorre with Marco Pennette. It featured Linda Lavin, Hector Elizondo, and Ben Vereen. Ashford is no stranger to Broadway. Her portrayal of Essie on You Can't Take It with You earned her Tony Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards. She has also performed on Broadway in Sunday in the Park With George Wicked, Legally Blonde in addition to the original part in the role of Lauren in Kinky Boots for which she was nominated for the Tony Award. Ashford is an Denver origins native, and now splits her time between Los Angeles.
